4 Ways to Treat Yourself

Valentine’s Day is about honoring the people you love which includes yourself. Sure, a heart-shaped box of chocolates is one way to celebrate the holiday, but treats aren’t always about food. Try one of these mindful ideas below and we guarantee that you’ll be feeling loved.

1. Create an Affirmation Wall. Write down positive truths about yourself to counter any negative feelings. Use fun colorful paper hearts or sticky notes. Hang them up where they won’t be missed, on your bathroom mirror or the fridge door. If we envision living out these positive activities, the reward centers of the brain make us feel more motivated and fulfilled.

2. Make a Mini Sanctuary. Just like kids build forts to carve out a private spot for themselves, as adults we need our own space too. This Valentine’s Day, set up your own cuddly corner in your living room or bedroom. Make it complete with cozy pillows, blankets, aromatic scent diffusers, and flame-free candles. Crawl in to relax and reboot. Use it to read, meditate, watch a movie, or just doze.

3. Bask in Beautiful Blooms. Enjoy the warm feelings of pure pleasure by giving yourself a bouquet of flowers. Why not!?! Flowers are not only pretty but they smell good and they help decrease negative emotions. This Valentine’s Day, create a festive arrangement of your favorite mixture of blooms for yourself. And since kindness also increases happiness: Make an extra bouquet to leave on a friend’s doorstep, too.

4. Plan to Pamper Yourself. Take time to appreciate yourself by indulging in a DIY spa treatment. Your face, hands and feet will thank you! You can go solo or invite friends to join in on the fun. Share ideas by researching and emailing each other skin care remedies and recipes in advance for face masks, soaks and essential oils. This way everyone in your group can contribute, prepare and share in the comforts.
