Spring Into Action This March
Hello spring, goodbye winter! Ditch the winter blahs and put a little “spring” into your step again! Once you breathe in the fresh air, move your body, and try new things, you’ll feel better inside and out. Nature can boost your happiness and increase good decision-making.
1. Renew Your Energy and Refresh Your Spirit
- Ditch the treadmill and head outdoors to get extra steps in while absorbing some vitamin D.
- Consider doing a walking tour or using a self-guided app for some healthy sightseeing on foot!
- Get involved and volunteer in parks or nature preserve cleanups and spring plantings.
- Head to the beach! Sand offers great resistance and can give your leg muscles a good workout.
2. Bring the Joy of the Outdoors Inside
- Take time away from bright lights to view the stars outside or from a window inside.
- Pick early bloomers from your flowerbed (or buy a mini bouquet) to brighten up your home.
- Rise early to catch a colorful morning sunrise, or slow down to catch an evening sunset.
- Enjoy time with a furry friend by walking your pet, volunteering at a local shelter, or joining a neighbor who’s walking their dog around the neighborhood.
3. Break From Routine and Try New Things
- Review and refresh your closet. Host a clothing swap with friends – one person’s “meh” is another’s “YAAAAAAAS!” Declutter and donate unclaimed items to charity.
- Team up to try something new with a friend. From the gentle intensity of Tai Chi to the all-out, full-body exhilaration of rowing, spring is the perfect time to test out new fitness classes.
- Spring-clean a friend’s junk drawer and have them do yours. You’ll both feel less attached to items, and better when done (just make sure nothing important is tossed!).>
- Take a “walk and talk” outside instead of meeting up for a happy hour. You’ll burn calories instead of consuming them.
